FAQs

What is MOPS?

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. MOPS International exists to meet the needs of every mom: urban, suburban and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single and married moms. MOPS meets the needs of moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be!

Why join Smyrna First MOPS?
MOPS gives you a chance to socialize with other moms who are experiencing the same mothering trials, tribulations and joys as you. We offer refreshment for your body, mind and soul. We have guest speakers, creative activities (nothing too complicated) and discussion time. We also offer play dates and Moms Nights Out throughout the year. These are optional and not part of the regular meetings but are a whole lot of fun!

My child isn't a preschooler yet. Can I still join?

Absolutely! We welcome expectant mothers as well as mothers with children through kindergarten age.

What are the fees associated with attending MOPS?
The MOPS International fee is $23.95 per year (this includes a subscription to MOMSense magazine, MOM e-mails and other benefits throughout the year). UP FRONT PAYMENT of $175 if you require childcare or $100 if you do not require childcare. This fee includes your MOPS international registration fee, as well as your nursery and meeting fees for the entire year.  The payment may be broken into two installments, payable at the start of each new semester.

Where is my child(ren) while I am in the meeting?
Children are cared for by the wonderful and qualified SFUMC nursery workers. There are three rooms available for your child based on their age. Should a problem arise with your child, a staff member will come and get you.

Can I keep my child with me?
If your child is less than 6 months old, then we are happy to have your child in our meeting. Out of consideration for all moms attending, we ask that children 6 months and older be placed in the nursery. (Older infants who are still nursing can be brought in for feedings.) This is not only for the safety of the children, but also helps us in our goal of encouraging moms to have time for themselves during the meetings.

What is the Smyrna First MOPS Inclement Weather policy?
Smyrna First MOPS will follow the Cobb County School system in the event of severe weather closings. If there is a 1-hour delay, then we will still have our MOPS meeting.  However, if there is a 2-hour delay or school in Cobb County is cancelled, then MOPS will not meet on that date.  We will communicate with you via email to notify you of a meeting cancellation.
